On the first day out in the Virgin Islands we went to Carnival to see the J'ouvert celebration. At J'ouvert there was dancing, music and food. The music was played on top of trucks that had live bands and djs and hype men to keep the crowds by them excited. The people at J'ouvert were dressed in few materials of clothing and some had on costumes the for crowds amusement. At J'ouvert there were children, parents, grandparents, people of all ages enjoying the festivities. There was food and drink stands down the entire street. At the celebration we were able to see the style of dance of the Caribbean/USVI. Men and women and children wind their hips and did a sort of march step to the music. The celebration was amazing to watch.

For the second half of Thursday we went to Coral World. It was awesome! I went snubaing. Its snorkeling for people who aren’t certified. So I still breathed air from the masks and could go 20ft down but we had a guide. It was an amazing experience; I was surrounded by these huge fish and coral reefs. My guide would pick up plants that were safe to touch and let me hold them. I was apprehensive at first with the breathing through the mask but I got used to it and definitely would like to pursue scubaing in the future. I saw sting rays, sea cucumbers, and many tropical fish.
Our group was suppose to plant mangroves and do beach restoration today at Coral World but our contact person feel through so instead we just swam and spent time at the beach. It was beautiful! The water is very salty so floating was particularly easy.VI_Carnival_035.JPG
